Jerry R Hughes, Sr.

Jerry R. Hughes Sr., age 84, of Akron, passed away June 29, 2026, quietly at his home surrounded by his family. Born on June 14, 1942, in Wadsworth, Ohio, Jerry lived a long and hardworking life marked by devotion, humility, and inner strength.

A devoted United States Army veteran, Jerry served with distinction during the Korean War. Throughout his years, Jerry’s dedication to his country remained strong and true.

Jerry was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, whose greatest joy came from the family he cherished. He spent many years as a truck driver, a profession that suited his steady nature and strong work ethic. At home, Jerry was known for his dependable nature and kind heart.

He enjoyed the simple pleasures that made life full—yard work, old country westerns, and the music of Marty Robbins, whose songs he loved throughout his life. Jerry liked to camp, finding peace in the outdoors, and in his younger years he enjoyed hunting and observing wildlife.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Golda (Bowman); seven brothers; and three sisters. He is survived by his beloved wife, Georgie’ Hughes; daughters, Amanda (Ben) McCune and Nora (Jason) Arnold; son Jerry Hughes Jr. (Gina); brother Roger Hughes; and grandchildren, Tyler, Jeremy (Alex), Morgan, Josh, Cole, Davis, Justin, and Everly, all of whom will carry his memory with them always.

Per Jerry’s wishes, no services will take place at this time. Hecker‑Patron Funeral Home was privileged to care for Jerry and to assist his family during this tender and meaningful time.
