JAMES E. HOFUS
On February 22, 2023, James “Jim” Hofus, passed away at his home surrounded by his family. At that time, all that he believed and put his hope in, became a reality, as he met his Savior, Jesus Christ, face to face. Jim was 74. Born in Akron, Ohio, he was the son of George and Helen (Dawson) Hofus.
Left to treasure his memory, his wife of 54 years, Nancy; daughters, Jennifer Bogle and Christine Lohse (Dustin Shaft); grandchildren, Ryan, Carter, Caitlin, Lauryn, Jake, and Gracelyn; sister, Shery Hofus; special friend, Tom Shields; a host of other friends; and his very special 4-legged companion, Lucy.
A member of Maranatha Church since 2000, where he served as a deacon, he was involved in mission work, both locally and internationally. He was a Law Enforcement Office for 42 years, serving the community of Springfield Township. Jim truly fulfilled the motto, “To Protect and Serve.” He enjoyed classic cars and spent many hours working on them. He loved drag racing. He never met a stranger and knew someone everywhere he went. Jim loved helping others in any way he could. He truly had a servant’s heart.
The family will receive guests, Saturday, February 25, 2023 from 10:00 am to noon, Maranatha Bible Church, Akron, Ohio, where a Memorial Service will follow immediately at noon. Pastor Craig Peters will officiate.
Hecker-Patron Funeral Home, Uniontown, was entrusted with Jim’s care and privileged to serve the family during this tender time. Please extend your condolences, prayers, and fond memories, by visiting: heckerpatronfuneralhome.com.
Two little lines I heard one day, Traveling along life’s busy way;
Bringing conviction to my heart, And from my mind would not depart;
Only one life, ’twill soon be past, Only what’s done for Christ will last.
Only one life, yes only one, Soon will its fleeting hours be done;
Then, in ‘that day’ my Lord to meet, And stand before His Judgment seat;
Only one life,’ twill soon be past, Only what’s done for Christ will last.
Only one life, the still small voice, Gently pleads for a better choice
Bidding me selfish aims to leave, And to God’s holy will to cleave;
Only one life, ’twill soon be past, Only what’s done for Christ will last.
Only one life, a few brief years, Each with its burdens, hopes, and fears;
Each with its days I must fulfill, living for self or in His will;
Only one life, ’twill soon be past, Only what’s done for Christ will last.
When this bright world would tempt me sore, When Satan would a victory score;
When self would seek to have its way, Then help me Lord with joy to say;
Only one life, ’twill soon be past, Only what’s done for Christ will last.
Give me Father, a purpose deep, In joy or sorrow Thy word to keep;
Faithful and true what e’er the strife, Pleasing Thee in my daily life;
Only one life, ’twill soon be past, Only what’s done for Christ will last.
Oh let my love with fervor burn, And from the world now let me turn;
Living for Thee, and Thee alone, Bringing Thee pleasure on Thy throne;
Only one life, “twill soon be past, Only what’s done for Christ will last.
Only one life, yes only one, Now let me say, “Thy will be done”;
And when at last I’ll hear the call, I know I’ll say ’twas worth it all”;
