James (Jim) Elisha Bryan, 86, recently of Decatur, IL, formerly of Akron, OH, departed this earthly life for his eternal home on June 15, 2026. Jim was born August 8, 1939 to Catherine (Bereza) and John H Bryan in New York City, NY.
He graduated from Spencer Van Etten High School in 1958. He enlisted in the United States Army and served his country, primarily in Germany, before an honorable discharge. Jim resided in NYC following his service. He met his wife, Sigrid Elizabeth Redinger, when she came to the city to visit mutual friends. They married on June 2, 1973, built their family in Akron, and shared 49 years together before her death in 2023. Jim was a hard worker at a variety of jobs before his retirement from JoAnn Fabrics Distribution Center.
Jim followed the Lord from a young age, faithfully attending and serving in church until he was no longer able. He loved all the old hymns. He was an avid gardener who consistently raised more fruits and vegetables than his family could possibly use, he would give the excess to friends and neighbors. Anyone that knew Jim would soon learn of his two great passions: trains and NYC. Jim and Sigrid enjoyed many travel adventures together including several cross-country road trips. Jim is survived by his daughters, Saranne (Robert) Emery and Leanne (Jeffrey) Becksfort; grandchildren, Ezra and Hadley Becksfort, Evan Emery; as well as several siblings, nieces and nephews. Jim is preceded in death by his wife, Sigrid and son, James Elliot Bryan.
Funeral services will be held Monday, June 29 with visitation from 11 am - 1 pm, with the service immediately following, at Hecker-Patron Funeral Home, Uniontown, OH. A graveside service will be held at Hillside Memorial Park, Akron, OH at 2 pm. Memorials can be made to Haven of Rest Ministries.
Condolences may be shared at www.heckerpatronfuneralhome.com as Jim’s life is celebrated.
