Florence H. Martin

Florence H. Martin, 96, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2017. Born in Uniontown, Oh. on March 2, 1920, she was one of 4 children born to John and Clara (Motz) Schmidt. Florence, a Uniontown High School graduate and resident all of her life, was a loving generous person whose whole life was her family, and those that adopted her as family. She along with her husband Kenny Sr. were founding members of the Uniontown Fire Dept., making Florence was one of the first woman fire fighters in the state of Ohio. She also served as a Uniontown Greenlawn Cemetery Trustee for many years, was an active member of the Lake Township Historical Society and a life long member of Grace United Church of Christ. Preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Ewell Kenneth Martin Sr., son Kenneth Jr. and grandson Gerald Jr.; she is survived by son Gerald Sr.; her devoted grandchildren, Cynthia Reece, Susan (Ralph) Blake, and Kenneth III; 5 great grandchildren, 7 great great grandchildren, and many other cherished relatives and friends. Visitation Sunday 1 to 3 p.m. at the Hecker Funeral Home in Uniontown, where funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. For those wishing, memorials may be made in her name to Uniontown Grace United Church of Christ, 13275 Cleveland Ave. NW, Uniontown, Oh. 44685.
