Betty J. Simms

Betty June (Rogers) Simms, 89, passed away June 10, 2017 in Canton, Ohio.  She was born on June 6, 1928 in Akron, Ohio to Carmel and Hazel Rogers. Betty was the first one to tell us of heaven and the very first one, Lord, to tell us about you. Words to a song she sang many times. On June 10th Betty took her final flight, like a mighty eagle, and went home to see her Lord, her husband of 67 years, and all the loved ones who have gone on before. She was probably singing as she stepped on the shore. Betty served the Lord from the time she was a teenager, she always walked the walk and talked the talk, and shared Christ through every song she sang.

Betty was very active in the community, serving in Green Schools, PTA's, Booster Clubs, and other schools interests. She also worked at Temple Baptist Church as the church secretary and pianist for Pastor Glenn Rogers, Sr., her brother for 25 years. Betty was very instrumental in the beginning of the formation of Temple Baptist Church, alongside Glenn, also a charter member. Many people in the area have known Betty for her wonderful gospel singing for many years. She had unconditional love like no other, many people can attest to that.

Preceded in death by her husband Russell Dale Simms; parents Carmel and Hazel Rogers; brothers Glenn Rogers, Sr., and Eugene Hinkson; sisters, Mary Virginia and Doris Lee; in laws Russell and Nelle Simms and brother-in-law, Gale Simms. Betty is survived by her  daughter Becky (Tom) Adams and son Roger Simms; grandchildren Robert Tremble (Scott Meszaros), Sara (James) Wills, Michael Simms, Marcella Simms and her fiance Mike Meditz; great grandchildren Paige, Ashley, Haylee and Jacob Wills, Madden Fares; great great grandson Justin James Kreighbaum; sisters-in-law Katie Rogers and Inez Simms; brother-in-law Jerry (Laurie) Simms and many nieces and nephews, church family and friends that she loved dearly.

A Special thanks to Pastor Glenn Rogers, Jr., Heartland Manor Care in Belden and Hospice Care for their wonderful care and compassion.
